The urban city of Compton,
considered a suburb of Los Angeles, is situated southeast of downtown Los
Angeles. Incorporated as a city in
1888,
Compton is one of the oldest communities in Los Angeles County. Named after one
of its founders, Compton is often referred to as the “Hub City” due to its
geographical position within the county.
Founded as a Methodist colony in
1867 and named for G.D. Compton, a pioneer settler, it developed as a farming
village. |
